What will you need from me to design my website?
In order to design and format your Website, we need you to provide us with the following before starting. Additional things such as Power Point presentations, video files, articles, soft copy of forms for downloading are optional and can be incorporated if you have them.
Do we support cross browser scripting?
We assume that we live in modern era and no one uses ie6, 7or 8. Hence, unless you tell us to, we dont fix old ie errors. However we support IE 9, 10 and all moder browsers, including android and iOS platform. Charges for fixing old IE issues are charged separately and takes more time. Its like writing 2 times the normal css, so it may cost you more depending on what you choose.
Do you provide hosting space and domain registration?
NO, we do not provide hosting space or domain registration by default. Customers have to register and buy their server space and domain first themselves.
What kind of technologies we use in projects we work on?
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the “www” or “dot com” address that will be associated with your web site. You need one of these if you’re going to have a web host. A domain name points to a web host, and that’s how users on the web can access your pages. Domain names can cost anywhere from $5 to $35 a year, and they must be renewed when they expire. We can assist you with registering your domain name, and Chambergates, our preferred web hosting partner, will provide you a free domain name of your choice when you set up your service with them.
Why don’t you offer web hosting and domain registration like other web design companies?
We feel that a domain name and a web host should be your property, not ours. That gives you the freedom to control your domain name and your web host. You’re not “locked in” to our services once we’ve finished designing your web site. Also, our competitors often charge three times as much for domain registration and monthly service fees for web hosting. By partnering with a large web host, we can pass the savings on to you. We feel that this gives our customers the most flexibility and the most control.
When my site is completed, who retains the copyrights to the design and content?
PHPLOADED retains the rights to all graphics and designs we create throughout the development process. When your site is completed, we transfer the rights to you. We do ask that you keep our “designed by” wordmark on your site for at least a year as a courtesy, but it is not required. You always retain the copyright to your content, whether it’s text, images, or graphics you provide to us, and we return all hard copies to you at the end of the project.
What is expected of me as a client?
Please provide electronic copies of text and media. Our developers will not enter data or create content except under extreme circumstances. We need you to provide us with the content for your site, or the pages cannot be created. The number one reason that web sites are delayed is because of a lack of content. Please provide as much information about your business to your developer as you can. This will allow your developer to “get to know” your business and create a site that is in tune with your business. Please respond promptly to requests by the developer. Our developers are not responsible for missed deadlines due to lack of content or signoff requests. Set due dates for your deliverables and make them clear to your developer. Our developers need lead time to complete a task. Developers may be working on several projects at once and may be unable to do ‘rush jobs” for your project. Most of all, we ask that you become as involved as you can in the creation process of your site. Remain in constant contact with your developer.
I would like you to develop my website, I need to know what is the process?
If you would like to use our services, first you need to inform us for the domain name you want to use and send us a brief idea of your necessities. We will purchase the domain in your name according to your ideas, purchase the right hosting package for your project and then based on your guidance, we will design an initial web page for you. This is then refined/ changed in consultation with the client until a satisfactory design has been reached. After this we will need you to send your contents and images for your site to us and then we will post these on your website. During this entire process you can check the progress of this website development.
What is the difference between a “static” and “dynamic” website?
A static website is one that is written in HTML only. Each page is a separate document and there is no database that it draws on. What this means functionally is that the only way to edit the site is to go into each page and edit the HTML – so you’d either have to do it yourself using a web page editor or we can edit the site each time you wanted something changed. A dynamic website is written using more complex code and can do a lot more. For instance, we can make an area where you can log in and change various parts of the website, such as adding information or products or changing existing products. eCommerce websites, news websites are some examples of dynamic websites. This is because each page is constructed based on the information in a database, and the information in that database can be changed via another interface. Dynamic websites can reduce ongoing maintenance costs if you don’t want to change things yourself with a web page editor or with the HTML. They usually cost more to develop, as they require more complex coding and a content management utility needs to be developed to help you manage your website information. Another benefit of dynamic websites is that they allow you to change only the content of the website and not the design, so you will not be able to accidentally break the visual style of the website. They have other benefits when websites start to get very large, as they make data management much more efficient and your website more expandable. Many clients do a combination, having some dynamic areas such as a product catalogue where they have to change information or pictures regularly, and leave other pages such as contact information as static pages.
Once the website is complete, can I update it myself?
Yes, you own the website and you can make changes at any time if you wish. You need to have a licensed copy of a Web design software and know how to transfer files to and from your live website (which are included in our website hosting setup documentation that is sent to you at the time of hosting). As we designed you website, it would be easy for us to do changes and you may want to sign-up for one of the website maintenance contracts as appropriate to you. Maintenance contract is a separate service and is NOT required to get web design service from us. We also offer some good online tools (add ons) to help you with content and picture changes on your website. You might ask for more details if you’re planning to update your website yourself. If you’re getting a eCommerce or database solution from us, those tools give you a back-end where you can define and update content on your website fairly easy.
How long will it take for my website to show up in the search engines?
Due to the large number of submissions being sent to the various search engines, it can take anywhere from two weeks to six months for your site to appear. A general submission does not guarantee that your website will be at the top or even in the first few pages of results. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) aides this process and can get your company higher in the search results. Even after we performs a SEO, it may take up to six months for your website to appear on the results pages.
